Poema

There’s one cat on your pillow
Another on the dresser
Two more, still, on the wall above

Our daily mole lies
at the foot of the bed
Your scarlet robe hanging
like a spectral priest, above it

And above me, my children sleep
Wrapped in innocent blankets
struggling with their mother’s dreams

Where are you? Happy in the mountains
Scouting for our place in the sun
Where we will go when all this is gone

I love your beauty, which springs from that earth
And will bear witness, some days
in the mornings
like a holy rite
